Nigerian superstar Davido has struck a chord with fans worldwide by sampling Brenda Fassie’s iconic hit Vuli Ndlela in his latest single, Funds. Featuring dynamic rapper ODUMODUBLVCK and soulful sensation Chike, the track is a celebration of African music’s enduring influence and marks a major milestone in Davido’s illustrious career.
The single is part of his highly anticipated album 5IVE, set to release in February. Touted by the artist as his best work yet, the album aims to fuse cultural roots with global appeal. Davido described the collaboration as a “pan-African dream,” emphasizing his admiration for ODUMODUBLVCK’s electrifying energy and Chike’s soulful artistry.
Speaking on the creative process, Davido shared, “We wanted Funds to reflect our heritage while resonating with listeners around the world. This song is more than music; it’s a statement of unity and pride.”
The music video for Funds, which dropped on December 6, takes viewers on a cinematic journey. Featuring Davido in a thrilling auction face-off with a romantic twist, the video underscores the track’s vibrant narrative. Davido’s new release follows the record-breaking success of his previous album Assurance, which earned a Grammy nomination and set streaming benchmarks as the most streamed African album on Apple Music upon release. With over 5 billion streams to date, Davido’s influence has reshaped Afrobeats on the global stage.
