Wizkid's highly anticipated sixth studio album, Morayo, has officially arrived, and it’s already making history. Released on November 22, 2024, the album marks a new milestone in the Nigerian artist’s storied career, setting multiple streaming records across platforms, particularly Spotify Nigeria.
The 16-track album, featuring collaborations with five guest artists, quickly captured global attention, building on the success of its pre-release singles. Peace of My Heart featuring Brent Faiyaz and Kese (Dance) not only dominated airwaves but also shattered Spotify Nigeria’s streaming records for biggest opening day.
Upon its release, Morayo quickly outperformed expectations, marking a transformative moment in African music. In just its first full day on Spotify Nigeria, the album earned a staggering 12.12 million streams, setting a new record for the most streams in a single day on the platform. This milestone more than doubled the previous record held by Asake’s Lungu Boy at 5.88 million streams.
Wizkid’s Morayo continued to break records globally, amassing 16.27 million streams worldwide in its first 24 hours. This achievement makes it the highest-streaming album for an African artist on Spotify to date.
Not only did Morayo redefine success in terms of opening-day streams, but every single track from the album also garnered over 500,000 streams on its release day, making it the first album in Spotify Nigeria’s history to achieve this feat.
As Wizkid continues to rewrite streaming records, it’s clear that the global music icon’s influence remains unparalleled. With the album edging towards breaking the record for the biggest opening week streams on Spotify Nigeria, Wizkid's dominance in the streaming era is undeniable.
As the album’s impact reverberates across the world, Wizkid’s status as a global superstar is further solidified. Fans and critics alike are already predicting Morayo to be one of the defining albums of the year.
