Acclaimed actress and now executive producer Nomzamo Mbatha found herself at the forefront of the South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), where her first production, "Shaka Ilembe," triumphed, taking home an impressive 12 awards, including the coveted Best TV Drama.
While many might revel solely in the accolades, Mbatha took a moment to reflect on her journey, particularly highlighting her nomination for Best Actress in a TV Drama. Though the award ultimately went to seasoned actress Shannon Esra for her standout performance in "Lioness," Mbatha expressed heartfelt gratitude for the recognition.
In an emotional message on social media, she shared, “My first nomination in the Best Actress in a TV drama at the South African Film and Television Awards has been a deeply humbling experience.” She expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to portray Princess Nandi, a character who transitions into the influential role of Queen Mother.
Beyond personal accolades, Mbatha emphasized the broader impact of "Shaka Ilembe," noting that the show created 10,000 jobs and provided daily work for hundreds of cast and crew members. “We took home the award for BEST TV DRAMA and 11 other trophies in different categories,” she proudly declared.
The actress expressed her heartfelt thanks to the entire production team, highlighting the collaborative spirit that characterized the making of "Shaka Ilembe." She commended the contributions of directors, hair and makeup artists, costume designers, and language coaches, stating, “It was my first time as an executive producer and the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, with the GREATEST reward.”
Her social media post was not only a celebration of success but also a message of empowerment. “I continue to learn, to desire growth, and hopefully to inspire all women and girls to hold on to their purpose, trust the process, and recognize that timing is everything,” she wrote, underscoring the transformative power of her journey.
Looking ahead, Mbatha is set to host a series of events at Earthshot Week in Cape Town, starting November 6, as she continues her mission to uplift and inspire within the entertainment industry.
